Preparing Youth for the Future

At your Community Foundation of White County, we believe that the future of our community lies in the hands of our youth. Through our Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC), we are actively preparing the next generation to be thoughtful leaders, responsible stewards, and impactful philanthropists.

Our YPC is more than just a program—it's a transformative experience where high school students from across the county come together to learn, grow, and make a difference. Guided by dedicated mentors and community leaders, these young individuals gain invaluable insights into how communities operate, and the pivotal role philanthropy plays in society.

Through the YPC, students engage in hands-on grantmaking, identify needs within their school communities, create and market grant applications, and award grants to support various initiatives. This process not only fosters a sense of responsibility and leadership, but also empowers them to take charge of their future and shape it through thoughtful action.

Since its inception in January 2023, the YPC has awarded $30,000 in classroom grants to support 47 unique projects taking place in the schools. 31 students have participated in the program so far with representation coming from all four county schools: Twin Lakes, Frontier, North White, and Tri-County. YPC Grants address a wide variety of needs in schools such as food insecurity, mental health, leadership development, classroom enhancement, STEM building opportunities, and more.

In addition to learning about grantmaking and philanthropy, the 2023-2024 cohort of the YPC engaged with an executive panel to learn more about nonprofit leadership, worked with community leaders to explore collaborative solutions to community-wide issues, learned about balancing work and family commitments alongside a dedication to serving your community through volunteerism, plus so much more.

Recognizing the importance of sustaining these efforts, the Community Foundation of White County is proud to announce the creation of a Youth Philanthropy Council Endowment. This endowment is a testament to our commitment to the future, ensuring that the activities and opportunities provided by the YPC will continue for generations to come. By building this endowment, we are investing in the ongoing development of our youth, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to become effective leaders and changemakers.

We thank the donors who have already contributed to this new endowment and invite other youth-minded individuals and families to join us. YPC mentor and supporters, Dave & Debbie Shook have generously provided a matching opportunity for the first $20,000 raised to support the endowment, tripling your impact!

The YPC is a cornerstone of our mission to strengthen and transform our community. As we prepare for the future, we invite you to join us in supporting this vital initiative. Together, we can ensure that our young people are prepared to lead, give back, and create a brighter future for all.

For more information on how you can support the Youth Philanthropy Council Endowment and other initiatives at the Community Foundation of White County, please visit our website (www.cfwhitecounty.org) or contact us directly at (574) 583-6911. Let's work together to nurture the next generation of leaders and philanthropists.
